Jake will be 11 on Sunday and has systematically begun the pre-adolescent's pure work of trying to kill the mother through frustration and offense.
Which is quite a change from this post of yesteryear.
We are having a surprise party for him Saturday night at Dave and Buster's (help me, Jesus) with the one thing absolutely necessary to ensure a successful party...
An open bar.
he looks friendly enough, but don't be fooled!

Hmmm. Eleven. Our parents are quietly tittering in their revenge.
I know it's only a few years away but I can't imagine 11! Hang in there, mama.
When he's 16 you'll look back on this and think you had it good. ;)
Mamma - Oh yes, my mother is in fact here now and is having quite a jolly time with all of this...
I freaking love Dave and Busters. Hey they serve nice tasty adult beverages there, so you should be fine. Although he's cute, I know some pre-teens and I wish you luck.
I'm five years away from my first one hitting 11. I can wait.
Just keep repeating, "Children are fun. Children are fun. ..."
It seemed to work for my Mom for many years.
Seriously, you have an awesome son! Kids! And don't worry, this too shall pass and you'll be into a whole other phase.
;-D
Shell
Oh, I hear ya!
Hope you all have a very happy birthday weekend!
You might want to specify that the open bar only carry the hard stuff. Good luck!
Aww...that cutie? giving you troube? (ha, ha! I m' calling you in 5 years)
May the Lord have mercy on your soul! AND I have an almost 10 year old and I can see the writing on the wall, and it ain't pretty. Let me know how you survive without killing somebody, okay? BTW he IS stinking adorable.
I know I already commented, but had to tell you that the girls are very excited to be able to see everyone.
I'll see you at the bar.
:)
My darling 11-year-old progeny told me to this morning to "get out of his face!"
HHMMM, lovely child.
Jenn
Jenn - They've gone bad! I had an email from Marissa who told me that it's worse with girls, so um, lucky us?
reminds me of how today at pickup at my older daughter's school, someone said about my younger daughter, "she is so sweet and calm!" and I was like "you wrne't in our house all morning, she was screaming like a banshee, ALL morning!
At least it's not a party at Chuck E. Cheese's!
I went to Dave and Buster's about 8 months ago ... gone are all my favorite games and pinball machines ... replaced by games I have no idea how to play ... I'm officially old.
Jen (on the edge) - NEVER AGAIN! My days at Chuck E. Cheese are wayyyy behind me.
can I get an AMEN?
AMEN sistah!
Okay, I'm scared for 11 - just hit 8 so a few years off to stress about it. Hope the party is lots of fun!
I'm having an empathetic drink (ok really two drinks) in your honor right now. Good luck!
Oh he's going to have so many girls chasing after him. Course he probably does already!
My son is 5 and sometimes I swear he's half teen-girl. The other night AFTER he cut a hole in his shirt, carved long lines in our kitchen table AND scratched a nice long line on our new stainless steel fridge, I punished the boy. 15 minutes afterward, I tried to talk to him AGAIN about the whole thing and he rolled his eyes and said, "Not THIS again!" THEN after a few minutes into my lecture he interrupted me and said, "Yeah, yeah, yeah. WHatever!"
IF you could dump off children like you can dogs, that child's butt would be in a cage at the Humane Society or some child version of it.
i dont know what you mean , i have 5 perfect children that never give me a moment of grief :)~
Freakin' hysterical. When my little brother started high school this year, he got all super cool, and rolling eyes, and sighing at us "old people" who just don't "get it" - grrrrr....
Good luck at Dave & Buster's. May you have plenty of quarters for games and may the bartender pour you a stiff one!
aw thats a cute pic! and yes open bar!
