Grace in Small Things - Day 3 of 344 - Grace of a Body

Despite the whole Be Phat not Fat by 40 kick I am on, I want to be clear that I don't hate my body... in fact, here are 5 reasons I'm quite keen on myself:

1. Babies. This body carried 2 healthy and strong and lovely babies into this world.

2. Brain Power. Made me smart enough to realize that our family needed our EvaJun.

3. Eyes. I think I have nice eyes. Can't see worth squat and am just about legally blind without contact lenses, but still, nice eyes.

4. Connection. All those physical traits that are passed down... the older I get the more I see (good and bad) of the women before me.

5. Heart. This wonky turncoat of a heart... it took me awhile to accept it's new strength... and now, whenever I hear my Swatchwatch of a tick, I know I am blessed.

Mine would be similar.

I am blessed to have born babies, nursed them with my breasts, carried them in my arms, walked them with my strong legs and sang them to sleep with my voice.

Too easy to hate our bodies, when we should remember the gift we have in them.

this is a lovely list. a great reminder to love ourselves and the body we have, as some are less fortunate than us.

Great post. And Anon comment.

I need to learn to love my gift of a body more ...which at the moment is giving me scary, sharp knee pains. Not good.

5 Things -- Day 3
THE BODY BEAUTIFUL

1. strong old-country arms (to wrap around children and build shelters if necessary)

2. slender calves despite big, muscular old-country thighs (um, to squat in the old-country field and deliver children)

3. lack of visible waist (peasant wear just does NOT look right if nipped in at waist)

4. gravity-obeying eyelids (nature's protection from harsh winters and summers toiling in the field)

5. appreciation for the women in my family who came to this country from lands where life was not easy, but their hearts were still full of joy and optimism.

K, your eyes are very lovely and see much more than you know...

This is a great list Kristin. I'd definitely have my eyes on my list too. although I am blind as a bat.

I am always grateful for my hands--though they are starting to show the veins (which I could live without) I focus on all the work they've done, the babies they've held, the meals, they've cooked and the writing they've done.

Holy cow...I really am impressed. Can you keep this up every day in a row? You are inspiring me to do something like this.

You are truly beautiful...inside and out.

I have a dear friend with ALS. When I start hating my body, I think of her and how she'd probably kick my ass if she knew what I was thinking.

Your list is wonderful. This is exactly why there are so many of us who adore you!

And don't forget your smile - it's infectious!

that's how I feel about my stretch marks. they remind me of really good things.

Eyes are the doorway to the soul ... I think I heard that somewhere once.
