More Nonsense...

I incorrectly dialed a phone number this afternoon. A woman who sounded to be about 400 years old answered said wrong number. She and I tossed a few, "hellos?" back and forth before I caught a clue and said, "I'm sorry, I have the wrong number." And I hung up. An ordinary happening. Something that happens hundreds of times a day all over the telephone dependent world. A non-event.

Until they called me back.

After I hung up I checked the number and dialed the one I actually wanted and was in the process of canceling a dinner reservation when I heard the tell-tale beep of "new voice mail".

And this is what I heard:

You stupid bitch, next time you are so stupid and dial a wrong number, don't be so fucking rude.

Hello?

The grandson? Son? Local hostile guy? Who has taken such umbrage at my wrong number?

So, I am sitting there sort of staring at the phone wondering what kind of freak would have the time for this type of thing when the phone rings again.

And it's my wrong number.

This time the message is:

Hi, Kristin. It's me. The guy you crank called. Listen, I think I love you and I want to marry you, so call me back.

Fuck.

I call my cell phone company and learn that they cannot block specific phone numbers from reaching me. They will, however, change my number for free. I don't think 2 phone calls warrants that drastic of a response, but I tell her I'll keep it in mind.

The phone rings again.

Message:

You are one dumb bitch..

That does it.

I call back and the fucker cheese doodle has his granny answer the phone! Here was my message to her:

Hello, I have a message for you to pass on to the young man who keeps phoning me. Please tell him that if he calls me one more time I am calling the police and reporting him for harassment. And, you can bet that they will, TAKE. ME. SERIOUSLY. Did you get that? It will take the cops all of five minutes to trace him via his phone number and tell him that he will be arrested and any future thoughts of law school will be out the window. (I don't know why I threw that bit about law school in, but it seemed to be the type of thing that might make an impact on Granny.)

And then I turned off my phone.

Strange situation! With all the caller id stuff these days, why would anybody make crank calls? Anonimity is a thing of the past. What a moron!

Wow that's creepy. He's some weird loser who lives with his grandmom and obviously has nothing better to do with his time. Sometimes I hate caller ID. By the way have you ever had anyone weird leave a comment on your blog or e-mail you? Just wondering. I worry about that sometimes

I had some guy calling my every night at 3:00 AM so every night before I went to bed, I forwarded my calls to the non-emergency phone number of the local police department.

When I got a call, my phone would ring once to let me know the call was received but was forwarded.

The creep called me and (obviously) got the PD then called again just to make sure he dialed right. He did this for several nights in a row and each time, I fell back to sleep with a smile on my face!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Kristin, can I borrow your life for the weekend? You have more excitement before 9 AM than most people have all day.

I'm with Joannah on this one though. Crank calling in a day where every phone (especially cell phones) comes with caller ID is just plain retarded. Granted, I feel sorry for the youth of today because they will never get to feel the joy of a rightly done prank call, but it's just not practical in a technologically advanced and litigiously minded society.

Good job on the law school comment!

Ooooh! Great story! I had chills! Sorry. I must have a deep seeded fear of telephone stalkers.

I hope you scared the crap out of him!

Kim - I had a rather hostile "anonymous" back in January, but he/she seems to have piped down. I do however, because of some of the stories I have shared, get visits from people who Google things like, "Swingers Laguna Beach", kids looking for the site for "Runescape" and a link my blog showed up on the finacial web page of Jack in the Box.

Yep, just taking a break. Still keeping up with my fav blogs. Just need to back away from some things...
although if I get any weird stuff happening to me, like you do, I might just have to share it!
