Happy Halloween... do you have a toothache yet?
I haven't even bothered to buy candy for the house, because:
1. I will eat it.
2. We never get more than 2 or 3 trick or treaters so we have become that family... you know, the one with the bowl on the porch? Only, instead of a wee sign reading "take one" our says, "take it as much as you want" because our Halloween candy options kind of suck and are usually made of up of some last minute purchase (so I won't eat it) from the drugstore and tend to be the saddo leftover and neglected candy... something along the lines of Pixie Stix or Circus Peanuts. Hush! all you Circus Peanut loving freaks... it's a gross candy and you need medication.
This year the people are:
EvaJun - Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. A movie she loves! Yet, a movie the rest of us hate! To punish us for our hatefulness, she watches it all. the. time. And sings! And now she is going to spend the entire day sashaying down the yellow brick road.
Jack - A Guy in NY Who Tries To Sell You A Watch. I seriously love this costume. He has taken photos of Hugh's various watches and then printed them out on photo paper, trimmed them up and pinned them to the inside on an old trench coat of mine... he has been working on, "Pssst, wanna buy a watch?" in a heavy NY accent and I am making him wear jeans so he doesn't look like a flasher.
Jake - An Vaguely Annoyed Tween. The Middle Schoolers aren't "allowed" to dress up for school (BOO!) and so he didn't even bother coming up with a costume for tonight... he may wear a wig, but has no plans for anything elaborate and why does this bring a tear to my eye? My little Power Ranger/Peter Pan/Doctor/Grim Reaper of the past is going to throw on an Afro and call it good? Curse you, hormones!!

I love all three kids' ideas, but Jack's takes the cake. I actually dressed the same way once in college and had a lot of fun with it.
Oh, and I have three large bowls of candy ready, because we get that many visitors every year. Last year, they kept coming, even when I had turned off all the lights, which is a clear sign not to come to my door.
Happy Halloween!
EvaJun is too stinkin cute. Jack's costume is so creative.
I may need to try your candy buying technique next year. I can't wait to get ours out of the house although I have grown attached to it.
We do the same thing with the candy. No trick or treaters really in our small dead end street. Love the costumes, so creative with the watches! I have a soon to be junior high kid also, he is going as an Undead Skater....not sure about that one.
Jen - What are Graceful and Elegant going as?? Could you talk them into being American Ghetto Dolls?
Catholic Runner - Yes, the crappy candy is the way to go.
Everyday Goddess - Undead Skater? Genius! I think I will have to suggest it to Jake... white paint and black eyeliner??
Love Eva's costume and I happen to also love the Wizard of Oz - can watch it over and over too. Jack's costume is awesome - being from NY he looks just like the guy who used to come up to me on my to work. So creative! Sorry about the middle school no costume rule - that stinks.
I adore Jacks costume. EvaJun looks like a great Dorthy, I love the leetle doggie too.
Mine are Dr. Addison Montgomery Shepard, A pink Unicorn and I think my tiny boy is going to go as "my treat".
I am going with your candy buying ways next year. I went to Target and bought candy for the freaking third time last night.
the watch seller costume is one of the best I've ever seen. what a great idea.
and EvaJun looks ADORABLE.
I love the watch seller costume. Very creative!
Bought our damn Halloween candy for the second time today. I think I might have subconsciously been trying to see how many mini KitKat bars it would take to make me sick. Never did find out, so clearly it's more than one bag...
Jack's costume is awesome! Very unique and funny idea for a kid =)
Heh heh - Seriously ...love each of your kids!
Love the sneaky watch seller idea. At least he takes the initiative to create a one-of-a-kind costume.
And I'm with Eva on the Wizard. One of my faves too. :)
BTW - Three of the giganto bags of candy were purchased by moi from Costco for our neighborhood kids. And that STILL won't be enough. Guaranteed. We get a ton of kids. Plus, a 3rd wave from all the imports that drive here by the busloads from other areas.
I'm hiding our pumpkins after 9 o'clock!
They look great!
I was really hoping this would be the last year for my oldest as far as dressing up goes, but no such luck!
Your kids are all so beautiful it should be illegal!
Have a happy and safe Halloween,

Agreed. Circus peanuts are nasty. They are fake smooshy candy overly sugared candy, that when it grows up, wants to be like real candy. Impostor.
I'm with you on the Circus Peanuts, but Pixie Stix? C'mon! Whoe doesn't love a tube of powdered sugar where the package dissolves when it get wet and you end up eating the paper too? Good time!
Of course I meant "who" and not "whoe". I hate Typos.
Your kids are so gorgeous. I seriously adore Jack's costume.
We stuck the candy bowl on the porch tonight for the first time ever and went out to dinner. I must admit, I really missed the cute kids in their costumes. The stoned roaming teens? Not so much.
L.O.V.E. Jacks costume!
My daughter was obsessed with all things Wizard of Oz when she was five, so of course she had to be Dorothy that year. I love that costume!
We're "that family" that leaves the bowl outside because we live on a steep hill that few dare to trudge up and down. Ah, well.
Am I the only one who loves those circus peanuts?
Damn Middle school teachers! You know Grace wrote a letter/petition about the costume thing, had about 3/4's of the 6th graders sign it and gave it to the principal. They still said no! My point yesterday to you after seeing some of the staff and mom's in their costumes...and they were worried about the middle schoolers????
Loved seeing them all in their costumes...Eva...the cutest...Jake's the most original (I have been telling everyone about his costume) and, of course, didn't get to see Jake's at school!!
No candy at our home either...no trick or treaters. Went to Debbie's...better neighborhood until you run into some of the 'old' school's moms!
Everyone thought Grace was Paris Hilton...not Legally Blonde Elle. She was a bit bummed! "Why would I dress like her" she said!
Hope you are having a great 'day after!'
See, I love thinking outside the box when it comes to Halloween costumes ... the NY guy selling watches is pure brilliance!
Yo Jack. I could use a watch. How much?
I agree, the watch costume is awesome!
We were prepared for a lot of trick or treaters like we had last year, but somehow we only had a few. And now? That huge bowl of left over candy you were talking about.
Would you like me to send you some?
Hmm, I may have bought a watch from your son. Love the costumes. Every year I say I'm going to buy candy that I dislike so I will not eat it. Every year I cannot find a candy that I do not like.
Great ideas, but I particularly love the watch one!
Erm...is there such a thing as candy nobody wants? Regardless, I'm stopping by your house next year to fill up.
Totally dig the watch salesman costume!
