It's Me! The World's Least Reliable Blogger!

Holy cow, people... how did it get to be November 29th? Like most of you, the time from Halloween to New Year's Eve is just one big Event (that's right, "event" with a capital "E") in our house.

Where did we leave off? Ah yes, the giant deer mouse/chinchilla/creature from parts unknown that was busy lurking outside the house... so, it's gone. Which is like the worst thing ever. Because that means it is somewhere in the yard, plotting to steal my car and drink my liquor.

What else has happened?

Jake's surprise party was a huge hit... say what you will about Dave & Buster's (if you are Hugh you say that it is the threshold to Hell), but there are few places easier to have a tween scene birthday. They stick you in this big ol' uglier-than-sin private room with a buffet consisting of such delicacies as mini cheeseburgers and nachos, toss a couple of bartenders in for fun and then hand the kids cards worth roughly 2 hours of game time... you eat, the kids play mind numbing videos and attempt to earn tokens that equal craptastic prizes... then you march everyone back in to sing and eat Sprinkles cupcakes and 3 hours later the party's over and you get to go home to your still clean and shiny house.

Thanksgiving was spent over on Catalina. A week of good friends, good food and good drink... it was like a beer commercial. Or maybe an add for anti-anxiety medication... pretty fabulous if I do say so myself. Especially since we were within tripping distance of a playground, a skate park (the skate park of doom... holes in the half pipe and toddlers on trikes) and the mini-golf course... which, if you are travelling with a group that includes 9 children, makes a delightful vacation for all. Also, the adults could drink and not worry about driving... which is good because karaoke on that island kicks off about 2 p.m..

Did I really mention alcohol 3 times in that one bitty paragraph?

And now we're home and getting ready for Eva's 4th birthday (Monday the 3rd) as well a long weekend trip to New York (yes, we are once again pulling the children out of school for travel... my girlfriend, Jenn, warns that I am one personal day away from homeschooling) to show the kids the magic that is: Manhattan at Christmastime.

I hope the giant rat doesn't move in while we're gone...

You've been a busy girl... missed you, though. I wouldn't mind if Spike and Eva shared a birthday.. he doesn't have to wait until Wednesday... we shall see!

Remember you need to show the children the great Northwest too!

The party sounded painful until you threw in the bartenders :)

Have fun in Manhattan... I look forward to the pics!

Oh my word, those cupcakes look divine!

I love Manhattan at Christmas time. So magical and festive. We haven't taken the children up there to experience the Expensive Magic, but we will some day.

I think Christmastime in NYC is a perfectly good reason to take everyone out of school. It builds character, and they're all big on that in school, right?

If the rat doesn't, I might move in. :)

you know they even named a salad dressing after Catalina

Dave and Busters = SCARY! I'm glad you survived.

I was chuckling when you said Manhattan at Christmas - I knew you couldn't possibly mean you were coming to see our little town for xmas ;)

And I think that I may be edging you out on the least reliable blogger title!

Glad to hear you made it out of D&B's! That place is scary! Enjoy NYC and be sure to take pics for all of us to drool over!

How wonderful to be going to NYC! We will be heading in on December 8th for some yummy noodle soup in Chinatown and then heading uptown to see the beautiful tree and window displays. It is my most favorite time to be in the city. Have fun!

Good luck with that giant rat! I personally like D&B's... and your kids' birthdays are close together!! And close to xmas too... you sure have a nice long break from buying presents after the holidays though, eh?

Oh I can't wait to hear about NYC! We are entertaining going there next December.

Thanksgiving sounds like it was a blast...

I agree with Hugh about D&B--but anything is worth not having the party at your house!

Oh yeah--when we were out there for dh's training, they had Sprinkles cupcakes for a break and he didn't even save me one. Bastard.

Hmmm...that party sounds disturbingly like my normal weekend. Erm...except for the shiny house part, of course.

Feel free to holla (as the kids say) when you're in NYC because, you know, the trip isn't the same unless you meet a stranger who happens read your blog. lol

So you teased us with a post, only to be whisked away to New York... Life just isn't fair.... I was so excited for a minute.

HAPPY 4th Birthday EVA.... So what kinda party are you having? More Sprinkles Cupcakes? Those look Yummie.. Good thing there isn't one close to me.. I'd be BROKE.
A few questions... Will Eva be wearing a Tiara, will the bartenders be there again. I'm sure the boys aren't looking forward to a "girlie party"

Have a great weekend

Jodi - We're only going to be gone for 5 days... home in plenty of time for Christmas! But yes, we've been fortunate lately to stretch our wings a bit!

I think Dave and Buster's would be a good value for a childrens party ... the food is pretty good, and the kids just love all the lights, sounds, and games. Once they took the old-faithful games out of Dave Buster's I realized I was getting old.

Happy 4 to Eva! I'm sure NY was a great trip. We moved from NY 4 years ago - about 40 minutes from Manhattan and my favorite time of year was xmas. I don't miss living there but do miss seeing it at Christmas time.
