Don't Know Much About (MeMe) History...

Once upon a time there were 3 little girls who went to the police academy... ooops, wait, that's not it, that's Charlie's Angels.

Here we go: Once upon a time, 20 years ago to be exact, there was a 16 year old girl who lived in Brentwood, CA and who spent much of her time skipping class at Marymount High School for Girls and racing between the Jonathan Club and the Mall (capitalized for importance!) in her candy apple red VW Cabriolet. Naughtily, jaunts to the liquor store located at 3rd and Western happened frequently. The elderly Korean shop owner had the most excellent quality of believing that the girls in front of him, in tweed skirts, white blouses and penny loafers, were indeed 21 years old and had every right to purchase those 4-packs of California Coolers. Yes, she was a spoiled brat, and maybe a bit precious in that car, but she also got very good grades and was nice to the elderly so no need to email and tell her she sucked.

Ten years later that same girl was still running around Brentwood, deferring on graduate school because she was pregnant, and, because she was in the constant throes of a hormonal breakdown, having conversations like this: You think custom Bellini bedding for the baby's crib is too expensive? You obviously don't love me or THE BABY!

Five years later she was the mother of two adorable and perfect boys and rejoicing over her hysterectomy. When she told people she was happy and relieved to be rid of her evil uterus, they would smile sadly and tell her she didn't need to be brave and that it was "ok to cry." So she started to lie and try to look tragic and brave.

Suddenly, it was 2003 and she and her husband had just decided to adopt a little girl from China. The option had been in the air for several years, but, one afternoon, when she was in Hawaii and he was at work back in California, they had a conversation that went something like this:

Her: There are so many darling little girls here... I can't help but think we should seriously consider adopting...

Him: Let's do it.

Before you knew it, 2005 had rolled around and her family now included her wonderful daughter from China. She was busy but happy.

Yesterday she celebrated Father's Day with her husband. A man that she can't believe she was smart/lucky enough to marry.

Today she will go to Gyrotonics and pick up the new ceiling fan for the living room. Also, the market.

Tomorrow is the last day of school so she will go to Mass and spend the rest of the afternoon chauffeuring her children to various parties.

omg... did you guess it was me all along?? ;-)

You segued so smoothly between segments that I didn't notice it was the Years meme until the end. Or I am too tired from the no-sleeping to notice subtleties such as transitions.

Either way, it's fun to find out a little more about you. :)

I guessed!

Very cool. I did guess it was you. Do I win a prize?

I can't see why someone would want to email you about that. I mean unless they wanted to make fun of all Marymount students, which I stopped doing after High School. ;)

Yeah! You did it!!! I am so jealous of you and your cabriolet!! I had a crush on a boy with one of those (his Daddy owned a car dealership).

Ooooh you sneaky minx. Totally tricked me into reading a (gasp) meme!! You have talent.

I too had the same break down over Bellini bedding. I think our husbands could talk. If we let them.

You're leading a charmed life chica!

Cabriolet? Lucky duck.

You know, I'm half-convinced that not having a uterus will be quite freeing.

Good meme, sneaky-sneak.

You sound like me in my youth. Except, insert Chevy Impala where the Cabriolet is, and Stroh's with the four pack. hehe

Kristin - I love your posts. You sound like such a socal girl. I'd like to hear a bit more about your decision to adopt from China and how it has affected your life since. Or I suppose that it (along with being a mom in general) affects every element of your life as it is. Probably hard to separate things out like that. Oh, and I had no idea you were talking about you. I still think you're lying. You're actually a midwestern housewife, homeschooling your four boys, shooting coyotes for the protein value, right?

Wow...
The candy apple cabriolet... and to think the car was full and you guys most probably split shared the four coolers...
Great story...
I love the suddenly part... in 2003 and then 2005 Voila!!!
Did the whole family go over???
