UPDATE

*** A CHRISTMAKKUAH MIRACLE ***

Last night Jake and Jack were talking before bed and, per usual, I listened at the door:

Jake - Jack, did you ask mom and dad for a computer?

Jack - No.  I asked for legos.

Jake - But, I thought you wanted a laptop?

Jack - I do.  But, I think she knows.

Jake - Probably.

silence for a few moments

Jake - Do you think we're greedy?

Jack - Probably.

Jake - Maybe we don't need anything.  Except I do need some new shoes.

Jack - Ok.  You ask for shoes and I'll ask for legos and I'll share them with you.

Jake - Ok.

silence... and then, just as I was caught up in the little moment of shoes and legos...

Jake - DID YOU JUST FART?!

cue maniacal laughter

But then, I would have to address the mounds of Christmas cards staring at me and I don't want to... stop looking at me cards!  I will get to you!  Tonight.  With wine.

How goes your Christmas shopping, Internet?

I am realizing, that, with 3 children, I can no longer afford the holidays.

Because my children are consumers.

Especially the oldest.

At any given moment the child can and will rattle of a list of approximately a frillion dollars worth of merchandise that he'd like to see under the tree... a MacBook!  An enV phone!  Replace the iPod with a Zune!

Christmas morning could look like some pre-teen version of Mtv's, My Super Sweet Sixteen

Only with less Jesus.

right now i'm grateful that my oldest pretty much just wants a Hess truck and he's happy. he did say he wanted a 4-wheeler, but i don't think my 6 year old is getting one

I got all my shopping done -- online -- before Spike arrived. I think we just have to pick up some booze for my FIL and a couple friends and we're all set.

I am not looking forward to the day when the Christmas lists start looking like a Best Buy inventory roster. Right now The Boy says he wants a truck and that's it. He's getting more than a truck, of course, but as far as what he's asking for, he's a minimalist... Now I guess I have to go out and buy a truck.

Wait...the holidays are supposed to be affordable? Why hasn't anyone ever told me that?

I remember those days. The worst part was that the gifts I was always so excited to give were the same ones that were outdated six months later...

Your son sounds a lot like my nephew. I don't blame the kids for wanting all these cool new gadgets, I want them too!

My nephew asked me for a Video ipod this year and all I could think was what does a 12 year old need this for?!

I'm done with my shopping -- HOOWAH!

Financially, I'm not at all upset with how we did this year. We kept things within reasonable limits and I'm happy with that.

As for the kidlets' wants and desires, since none of us watch TV (we're a DVD-only family), there are no ads to tempt us. It makes things much nicer. Especially since I also recycle the American Girl and My Twinn catalogs before the girls can see them.

When it comes to Christmas, I always enjoy giving more than receiving ... although I do love receiving. I enjoy getting the perfect gift for someone, and the reaction I get.

Well, I think the little darlings are each getting a laptop and then we're calling it good... I may stick some candy in their stockings... or coal!

LOL! Kids have a way of "ruining" all those Hallmark moments!

I think Jake and Jack should have their own TV show.

I love how their conversation ended with fart talk.

I know! It's like, there was this tender moment (for my hard little grinch heart to grasp) and then, like an uninvited guest, the fart talk arrives!

I'm freaking out about what I can't afford this year. I miss the easy days when Nilla wafers made me a hero.... My crazy tweens ask for the world knowing it isn't possible. Are they trying to guilt me into more things??? What to do? I guess I better think about shopping....

And people say that Christmas has become too commericialized. Hmph!

I know!! I have 2 teenage stepdaughters and their dad is (of course) guilty about their "broken home" and is buying them thousands of dollars worth of jeans and purses and new iphones! It makes me crazy that we live in a world where these things exist for such young kids!

I had to scrape Gillian off the floor from laughing her head off after reading this post.

The finer points, of course, were lost on her. But the ending left her rotflol. :)

I have to say something about the christmas cards...I make mine up at the end of October/beginning of November...and address the envelopes. Then closer to sending them out, I write a quick note and seal them and send them because I also already stamped them. It helps that I only do about 35 as opposed to the 150 I did back when I was married. (and insane)

He can't get a MacBook and a Zune. That's just wrong. What lucky kids to have such elaborate wish lists. I love that you eavesdrop on them. Well done.
